Very good remake that was neither cheesy or dumb. Very well done, well shot, and good effects. It has an R rating so the killing is graphic, there are excellent sex scenes, a good amount of humor mixed in and they don’t have to hold back with the scary stuff. ALSO, the sound track and sound effects are VERY well done. The “scary” stuff is enhanced by the sound effects that are perfectly placed and executed.

This is similar to the recent first remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, where they did a good job reinventing the film in modern times. The same people produced this new version of Friday the 13th and did an equally excellent job.

I liked how they introduced the hockey mask into the story, but I won’t tell you so you can see it at the theaters.

Here is the description from IMDB -

Young friends Whitney (Amanda Righetti), Mike (Nick Mennell), Richie (Ben Feldman), Amanda (America Olivio), and Wade (Jonathan Sadowski) end up missing in the woods near the abandoned Camp Crystal Lake (made famous by the original 1980 film), after allowing their curiosity to get the better of them and visiting the site where a psychopathic killer resides. Six weeks later, Trent (Travis Van Winkle) invites friends Jenna (Danielle Panabaker), Bree (Julianna Guill), Chewie (Aaron Yoo), Chelsea (Willa Ford), Lawrence (Arlen Escarpta), and Nolan (Ryan Hansen) to his father’s cabin on Crystal Lake for a weekend of sex, booze, pot smoking, and water skiing. However their seemingly fun weekend soon escalates into a nightmare after lone traveler Clay (Jared Padalecki) shows up looking for his missing sister Whitney. The police have searched with no luck, and Clay is now searching alone. Local citizens have advised Clay not to go into those woods, because anyone who shows up missing is already dead, and he is wasting his time. During his search, one of the students, Jenna, decides to help Clay find his sister, and they go into the woods. They find the abandoned Camp Crystal Lake and search the dilapidated camp house for any signs of his sister. They soon find themselves face to hockey-mask with evil reborn, reimagined, and rebooted, and his name is Jason Vorhees (Derek Mears)

I WOULD recommend Friday the 13th for any one who likes scary movies, even if you know exactly what is going to happen, lol. I was in a completely sold out theater and people were screaming and laughing the entire time.

Derek Mears plays Jason and he is good in the roll, even though you never see his face. He was also one of the scary guys in The Hills Have Eyes.

IMDB link – http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758746/

The news stories I am reading are saying that this movie will break all records for opening weekend box office for R rated horror movies. the theater I was in was totally sold out and I head that every single show for this movie was also sold out all day long.

Finally, I ALWAYS recommend going out and renting the original version of these remakes so you can experience what was so great about the first versions of these flicks. Only then will you understand why they have remained so popular.

Not bad, but also not good.

Filmed like the movie Cloverfield, it is completely shot from the view of a cameraman following a reporter. the reporter is doing a story on a group of firemen and goes along with them, only to stumble into an effected building where they are locked inside (by the authorities) while everyone turns into blood sucking rabid zombies. Just like Cloverfield it starts with about 30 minutes of the filming of a bunch of people while the reporter is doing film spots with the different firemen around the firehouse. this lets the viewer get to know each of the characters.

After that and once they get to the infected building the movie quickly turns into a rapidly jerking around camera view, a lot of screaming, running, bloody biting, and people’s life ending quickly.

My problem with this film is that it is NOT original. There have been SO many similar movies. 28 Days, Resident Evil and on and on and on. Sure they are a little different, but in the end they are basically the same.

This is an OK RENTER if you have a few hours to kill and want to be grossed out a little by the gore. There was only a few scenes that really grossed me out, but my wife had to cover her eyes a few times, especialy during one really gruesome scene with a broken leg and an infected man trying to walk on it.

Overall I give it a C+ to B- for a grade.

I just had to post my excitement at seeing gas BELOW $2 in Florida and Alabama. This can only be the start of gas prices dropping all over the country and hopefully continuing to drop right through the holidays. How great would it be if We see $1.50 or $1.25! that would be fantastic and really help out with having extra money for Christmas gifts and other expenses.

There is NO REASON that gas should go back up again in my opinion other then the gas companies raping us for profits and end of the year bonuses. In my opinion they have made enough at this point to stick it to us again during the holidays.

And hopefully if we can really start moving towards cars that don't rely only on gas we could really move away from the coast associated with paying at the pump. Either way, it is going down currently and that is a positive for me. I'll keep my fingers crossed for even lower prices.

I thought nothing could be worse then The Happening, but this piece of complete shit is quite possibly the single worst movie of 2008.

And it is my own fault for watching it. I had been told by EVERYONE that is SUCKED, but I still rented it. From the opening SECOND of the movie....it sucked. And not historically stupid Adam Sandler movies that were still funny. No, this was dumb, dumber and dumbest with barely a laugh the entire movie. There are about 100 cameo appearances from other actors and they suck also. It almost seems that Sandler has gotten so full of himself that he though he could put out a rotten movie and people would still go see it.

What boggles my mind is that this pile or horse shit had an estimated 90 MILLION DOLLAR budget. on the strength of Sandlers name it grossed just over 100 million in the US, making it barely pofitable (once you add in marketing and promotion, etc

Briefly the story is about Sandler playing The Zohan a super Mossad agent who has almost super powers, dances like a 70's jackass and is an all around idiot. Instead of being a terrorist he would rather cut hair in NYC. The predictable movie has a dumb love story and we get to see Sandler have simulated sex with about 15 women over the age of 65, another pointless part of the movie.

Dont waste your time
Don't waste your money
Don't see the Zohan, it sucks.

This weekend I am playing in a golf tournament with some friends. I completely suck. And no matter how much I practice, or how many lessons I take, I still suck.

What frustrates me even more is that I am a good athlete at just about every other sport. I played competitive sports throughout grade school and high school and was a starter or team captain in many of them.

But golf seems to be totally different. No matter how in shape you are, or how good your cardiovascular is, you still can easily … suck.

My issue I believe is a combination of both mental and physical issues.

First the mental part. I have no patience whatsoever and that makes me want to rush to be great in golf. If I don’t see immediate improvement I get frustrated and start regressing in my game due to vocal and angry outbursts that completely ruin my concentration. Once distracted it is over. I then start OVER thinking everything and it just gets worse from there.

The physical part is different, but related to the mental issues. Everyone I play with loves to drink when playing. So if I was trying hard to concentrate and work on my game, it becomes harder and harder as the beers as drank hole after hole. Before long the laughing and taunting dominates any efforts to do actual work on my swing and overall game improvement. It is a catch-22. I want to have fun with my friends, but I also want to get better at golf.

I seem to be failing at all aspects of improving. Finally I just do not have the time OR MONEY to get some lessons. And I NEED help with many aspects of my game, mainly because I currently do not gain anything when trying to play. I will report back in the future on my golf game and if there is any improvement.

M Night Shyamalan is SO LUCKY that the 6th Sense was his first lucky hit, because his movies have gotten worse and worse since. EVENTUALLY THERE HAS TO BE MORE THEN JUST “STYLE”. THERE HAS TO BE “SUBSTANCE”.

Let’s review

6th Sense – lucky break out hit with a surprise ending that people kept the secret about
Unbreakable – I liked it. A very unique take on the “super hero” movies. might be his best actual movie, but it was very slow and grainy, so I understand why some people could not get into it.
Signs – was horrible. let’s be honest. the alien looked fake and the acting was pretty poor. it is just an average movie.
The Village – just complete crap. dumb movie. dumb idea
Lady In The Water – almost completely UNWATCHABLE. A terrible movie and just about everyone agreed that it was one of the worst of the year in 2009

The Happening has Marky Mark Walberg playing a teacher. As the East Coast becomes part of some sort of strange phenomenon where people just start killing themselves in very gruesome ways. I won’t ruin the movie for people BRAVE ENOUGH TO WASTE 89 MINUTES OF THEIR LIVES, but it is silly. And like all M. Night movies the ending sucks even more. And the acting is just short of suck-ass-terrible.

He has lost the magic in my opinion. He still gets complete control over the making of his movies and I believe that will stop soon. You cant spend 75-100 million dollars on a movie to make 40 million without the studios paying for these flicks to eventually step in and take back the control.

I hated it. At the end of the movie my wife almost threw her dinner plate directly at our TV in disgust and anger for how stupid it was. That is how we felt about The Happening.

When historians look back at the 2008 presidential landslide, they won’t focus on the fact that Barack Obama — soon to be our 44th President and our first African-American Commander in Chief — ran a smart and steady campaign. They won’t focus on William Ayers or Joe the Plumber or socialism or racism. They won’t debate whether John McCain blew it by targeting Pennsylvania or by avoiding the press or by ignoring the Rev. Jeremiah Wright or by picking Sarah Palin as a running mate. They won’t remember the robo-calls or “cling” or the Paris Hilton ad or the crazy chick who carved the B into her face. The pundits filling airtime on their 24 hour news channels might have cared, but posterity won’t.

No, when historians analyze the 2008 campaign, they’re going to remember that the two-term Republican President had 20% approval ratings, that the economy was in meltdown, and that Americans didn’t want another Republican President. They’ll also remember that Obama was a change candidate in a change election. And of course they’ll remember that America elected a biracial leader less than a half-century after Jim Crow. But that’s just about all they’ll remember. Politics is a lot simpler than the pundits pretend.

The Republican recriminations will be ugly, but McCain was probably the most electable candidate the party had: a genuine war hero with an impressive record of public service that didn’t always include marching in lockstep with George W. Bush. He threw some Hail Mary passes — Palin; the “suspension” of his campaign — but he didn’t have much of a choice against a Democratic tide. He was the right guy in the wrong year. If Washington Republicans decide that he lost because he was too squishy on immigration or too pro-regulation in his response to the economic crisis or too mavericky, they could find themselves cocooning in the wilderness for a long time.

Remember what eight years of Republican rule has wrought: missing weapons of mass destruction, the promises we’d be greeted as liberators, Jessica Lynch, torture, the disintegration of Afghanistan. Also: Enron, WorldCom, Bear Stearns, AIG, Fannie and Freddie, GM, Chrysler, Social Security privatization, the $700 billion bailout. Also: Brownie, John Ashcroft covering up that bare-breasted statue at the Justice Department, Alberto Gonzales politicizing the Justice Department, Harriet Miers, the oil lobbyist who edited those global warming reports. Also: Jack Abramoff, Duke Cunningham, Bob Ney, Tom DeLay, Ted Stevens. Also: the Vice President shot a guy, and the President almost choked to death on a pretzel.

And McCain still almost won Virginia! It’s going down to the wire in Florida! All things considered, that’s a pretty impressive showing.

The pundits are already warning that Obama could overreach, that Democratic congressional leaders are still unpopular, that this is still a center-right country. But it wasn’t tonight. Obama will have the luxury of taking office at a time when the GOP is the AIG of electoral politics, when his predecessor has set the lowest bar since James Buchanan, when a supposedly conservative Administration just started nationalizing the banking system, when the public is desperate for change. What is it about tonight’s results that suggests Obama should be afraid of progressive action on the cusp of a depression?

But those are questions for another day. The big news tonight is that whether or not there’s a Bradley effect, it’s nowhere near as big as the Bush effect. And now a guy who would have had to ride the back of the bus in some of this country when he was a kid has grown up to run this country. Historians will remember that.

From our friends at Political Disgust:
I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG. Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a ‘We Deserve It’ Dividend.
To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+. Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up.

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00. My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.

This is from our friends at Political Disgust . Food for thought. While the math below does not actually make sense, I can’t say I do not disagree. Why not just divide the entire 700 Billion and give it right back to the American people.

I’m against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I’m in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a ‘We Deserve It’ Dividend.

To make the math simple, let’s assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%. Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?

Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved.

Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads Put away money for college – it’ll be there safe in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs.

Buy a new car – create jobs

Invest in the market – capital drives growth Pay for your parent’s medical insurance – health care improves Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else!

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we’re going to re-distribute wealth let’s really do it…instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( “Vote Buy” ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we’re going to do an $85 billion bailout, let’s bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG – liquidate it. Sell off its parts.

Let American General go back to being American General. Sell off the real estate. Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

Here’s my rationale: We deserve it and AIG doesn’t. Sure it’s a crazy idea that can “never work” But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion

We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC.

And remember, This plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

(Please note that the math above is purposely incorrect and $85 billion divided by 200 million is really only $425, BUT it sure does make you think that it would be better to just give the 700 Billion back to the people!)
